Error! Camera not Available!

I've had my Z1 for approximately 2 weeks now and I've just gone to take a picture and it's sitting on a black screen for about 6 seconds and then popping up a box "Error! Camera not available!" After having this phone for such a short period of time, and the camera being the main selling point of the phone I'm somewhat dissapointed that I'm having issues already. Any suggestions on what might be causing this issue? Or anybody else having this issue/had this issue and knows of a fix? Last thing I want is to be stuck with a phone that has no camera for a 2 year contract when the entire reason for getting a new phone was to double as a camera for the start of Uni... Already had one night worth of pictures missed now because of this let down...

I am also having this kind of camera issues..Randomly, whenever this happens, I just clear Cached/History/Data Traffic or boost memory of the fone, then it will come back to normal & I also recognized that this randomly happens when I have many running/background apps..But I hate doing that every now & then especially when capturing underwater because touchscreen isn't working underwater, you have to get out of the water just to properly press on the touchscreen & clear the cached for the cam just to get it back! how come Sony?!

I have the same proble with TX. Camera stopped suddenly displaying "camera not availbale"! Other apps related to flashlight or camera also stopped working. My Android was 4.1.2. I updated the phone's Android to 4.3 buildno 9.2.A.1.199. It worked! and camera started to work but the photo quality was awful!! photos had lots of noise and camera was inable to set ISO sensitivity and... I downgraded the phone to 4.1.2 and camera stopped again! So I do not know it is a software problem or a hardware problem! Please someone helps!

Hi J-R_I, you are very right.  I got the same error message.  Upon checking your post, I realized that I used Soundhound App the night before, after I used the camera last time.  So I deleted the Soundhound App.  Guess what?  the camera works again!

I am also having the Same Problem...nd it persists again nd again....every time i restart my phone then the camera is normal to use...but all of sudden it gives error camera not available or black screen...this happened since last time i updated it to android kitkat....is there any solution for it...

Same problem over here: Camera stopped. I can press OK and then nothing happens. I'm quite frustrated bezause it's a new phone and I'm on a 4 week holliday on Cyprus so I can't take any holliday pictures/video's with my phone and I also can't go back to the store! HELP!

I made a backup on my laptop and reset my phone back to fabric settings. Still the camera gives me the same error!

I have an Xperia Zl with the same camera error. Had the phone for about 6 weeks now. It started giving errors for the camera within the first week and after the OS update, but not sure it was related. At first I was able to power on and off a few times to make the camera work, but now for over a week, nothing I do will allow the camera to work. I was on Chat with support and last night I following their instructions to reset everything using PC Companion and selecting Repair phone and Connect. This wiped out all added apps and data and reset the phone back to factory, but I still have the error when trying to use the camera. Does anybody have any other suggestions? What's the next step?

Hey guys i had the same problem with my xperia z1 camera i had to restart my phone regularly since my camera was stuck with the error camera not available i checked many forums cleared my phone factory reset it but problem remained. Then once on that error i changed my focus mode from touch focus to single auto focus and this seemed to solve the problem. According to my experience focus modes are messing up and keeping it simply on single focus modes solved the problem for me
