Error! Camera not Available!

I've had my Z1 for approximately 2 weeks now and I've just gone to take a picture and it's sitting on a black screen for about 6 seconds and then popping up a box "Error! Camera not available!" After having this phone for such a short period of time, and the camera being the main selling point of the phone I'm somewhat dissapointed that I'm having issues already. Any suggestions on what might be causing this issue? Or anybody else having this issue/had this issue and knows of a fix? Last thing I want is to be stuck with a phone that has no camera for a 2 year contract when the entire reason for getting a new phone was to double as a camera for the start of Uni... Already had one night worth of pictures missed now because of this let down...

I also got "camera not available" on my Xperia tablet Z running Lollipop, but I got it solved.

After installing the free app "camera MX" from the play store and started it once, the original camera app from Sony worked again. Then I deleted "camera MX" and the original Sony camera app keeps working.

DONT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!! Sony are a garbage company and brand. I had my phone for 6months. When I first got it it fried my 32GB memory card, the keyboard pops up whenever it want to. When I'm texting it'll freeze then the letters will pop up, now the camera doesn't work. It says error camera not available. We all know nowadays the camera is important with social media. I'm a college student working three jobs to make ends meet. I almost wanted to cry when I think about the 300$ I waste to get this phone. My godchild will be getting an xbox for his birthday because I refuse to waste my money on a PlayStation and I'll just have to settle for a use Samsung atleast after yrs of use it continues to be a good phone.

Hello,

I have randomly 'Error Camera not available' with black back camera image and dead shoot button, while front camera is unaffected.

Temperature 56 °F or 13 °C.  Software up to date.  Android 5.0.  I have been using a flap cover for weeks without problem.  The cover and camera holes do match. I have removed the protective film at the back of the phone.

Restarting Camera may or may not help.  Restarting phone may or may not help.  Cache clearing or App reset tricks found on the web are useless, probably because they were designed for older Android versions.

Removing phone cover may or may not help.

I have noticed the problem after installing some applications (from Playstore) aiming at using the phone as a webcam or reading Qcodes.  As none of this applications worked or were useful, I uninstalled them.

I have also seen image distortions, such as vertical cuts and wrong colors, freeze and vanishing shoot buttons, about 5 seconds before the error message appears.

The Camera application does not freeze.

My guess : a mechanical or thermal problem, possibly on some internal contact.

Your guess ?

Thanks.

Hello,

I have not seen anymore the problem for a few days.  Temperature, now between 15 and 20 °C, may be a factor.  Software is probably not involved.

Hello. I currently own a Sony Xperia Z1. The last two digits of my build number are 105, and the handset runs Android KitKat. Is the device at risk of developing the camera fault? Thank you.

@aviationgeek101

I have a Z1 for few years now and it works just fine, I've only encountered a camera issue when I was using it at a music festival with a 38-40C temperature, that plus poornetwork reception/coverage and other hundred thousand people and taking pictures heat up my phone so I had to wait few minutes to cool down, other than that I haven't encountered anything else
