Android 6.0.1 update unable to format SD card as internal memory can't move app to SD card

I just updated to Android 6.0.1 last night and I realized many things has changed. I can't access my apps store on the SD card from Android 5.1.1. I was able to move the apps to the SD card on 5.1.1 to free up some internal memory. The Marshmallow update supposed to have a better feature. It can mount the SD as internal memory provided I have to formated as internal memory. I bee playing around with my phone all day and I realized on the Sony release, they do not have this feature. I been YouTubeing around and found that within 6.0.1 in the settings /storage/SD card sub-menu, there should be 3 options. Eject, Format, and Format to internal memory. That's what I'm missing. Also if u insert the SD card for the first time, it should pop up a notification asking you what to do with the SD card. It didn't ask me. This is a known feature with marshmallow. My phone only have 16g, it won't hold all my apps, that was the reason why I move some apps to SD on Android 5.1.1. So what's going on?

I also factory reset my phone and format my SD again on my computer, it still don't work. It only treats it as a portable storage.

How on earth has this been marked as solved? We still can't use one of the main features of Android ON AN ANDROID PHONE!

It was mark solved because there's a way to move apps to SD card. If you are looking for the feature of mounting the SD to internal memory, you're not going to get it. That's what Sony decided to do. They removed the feature from Android. I was having problems with movies apps when my SD card has more then 32G free space, but that issue was solved by someone, My main issues was I was not able to do so in the beginning, so I marked SOLVED when I had the work around. This all you'll get for now. Until the next release to see what Sony will giv us.  Don't put too much hope on yourself. Sony has a bad tendency to listen to people.

Hi UncleSammo,

Thanks for help, I find a soft that with him now i can format the SD car on low level.

@CameronT
Go to Settings > Apps > [The app you wish to move] > Storage > Change > SD Card.

I try this method to move the application to sd card but it says "Not enough storage". I'm using a 64gb sd card.

What should i do? Or i just wait for next system update to fixed this issues?

I posted a few times in regards to this issue. There seems to be a bug in the Android OS. There are many people has the same issue. It's been posted in androidcentral forum.

If you have more then 32G of free space, you will get the error "Not enough memory". I had the same problem. It took me days to find the solution. Fill up your card with Music, videos, pictures, what ever you want to put in there to bring the free space down below 32G. Then try moving your app again. See link below from people.

Have to agree, this is hardly solved. The MAIN change to 6.0.1 was to have SD cards appear as secure internal storage or to have them as insecure portable storage.

To not allow this on phones/tablets that cost in excess of 400 pounds is inexcusable. What exactly is the point of this update if the most important feature is missing? Solved? You're having a laugh.

I get the feeling that the internal arch of the z3 system is  not good enough and would either be too slow or too battery draining.

I think I can live without yet another relayout of the menu. It would be different if I could remove or move such garbage as "Sony Account Manager", "AR effects" or "AR fun". None of which as a business phone user provide any function whatsoever.

No Sony's answer it to not really bother. Well, let's not bother with any more so called updates. I'll keep my phone at V.5 thankfully I've not upgraded that as the internal memory is already maxxed out.

My tablet, I'll give cyanogenmod a try as there doesn't seem any point in sticking around with this OS. At least it will be last time I see most of the bundled software.

Will think long and hard about my next Sony purchase.

I do agree that this is hardly solve. It's move of a work around. The reason why I created this topic was because I was not able to move apps to SD card. however I was able to find a solution a few days after.  so since I have found the solution to moving apps, then the real issue is kind of solve.

Since the feature of formatting SD to internal memory is not an option with Sony, then there's no point to continuing to press on that subject. Sony will not add this feature back in, since they think it will slow or cause issues to the internal memory or apps. A lot of phone manufactures has removed this feature. I don't like it, as well as many other people share the same view, but that will not change the their corporate decision.

I tend to disagree with the apps moving to SD card. I keep moving my apps and my device shows me that the bulk of the app is on the sd card but it does not seem to free up the space. My internal storage still shows that I'm run 15,4gb of 16gb. When I insert the sd card to my pc It does not show any of the files that were transfered. The only things that do transfere are the photos and music. But my apps are not moving although the device shows that it did.
