How To Cool Down The Z2

Will it help if I submerge my Z2 in a basin of fresh [cold] water when its temperature rises at an unusual level? Sometimes, playing HD games and videos really heat things up after a considerable amount of time, especially when I'm out-and-about or in a very humid place.

If you use your device to talk, transmit data, or play games or music for an extended time, the device may get hot. This is normal because in these conditions the device uses more power than usual and therefore generates more heat.

If your device gets hot after only light usage (after limited use) or for no apparent reason, we would suggest you to:

  • make sure you are using original charging accessories (battery, charger, USB cable etc.). A non-compatible third-party accessory, such as a battery, a charger or a USB cable may cause the device to malfunction.

  • back up all your data in the phone, then perform a software update/repair procedure to make sure you have the latest Xperia™ device software. Do this by using the PC Companion application on Windows® computers or the Sony™ Bridge for Mac app on Mac® computers. Before performing a software repair, make sure that your phone is fully charged.

  • contact your retailer or an authorised service center. Before handing the phone over for service, back up all your data to avoid possible data loss. Don't forget to bring proper documentation with you, for example, proof of purchase, warranty cards and so on. This may vary in different markets, countries or regions.

There are myriad reasons as to why your phone will heat up, I've noticed that when I'm in an area that has poor network coverage my phone will heat up like crazy and drain my battery a lot faster. I don't think its a good idea to cool down your phone with ice or water or things like that, turn off your data and you'll see that it will cool down faster

Mobile phones will always heat up when you play games or movies for a long period. Actually not only phones, even tablets, laptops and PCs.

And since Z2 is waterproof, dunking it in cold water will definately cool down the phone. It's a given. I'm sure everyone has at least tried that once. Heck, I watch anime on my phone while I'm in the shower. LOL

Xperia z2 is not optimize for gaming or watching movies much that's why it is hotter than most smartphones on the market right now. SONY TAKE NOTE GOD **bleep** IT! You guys been in mobile for years and you still havent solve this heating stuff yet! I should of bought htc one m8 instead of the z2. Having all kinds of problem with my z2 aswell.

I think it is mainly down to the materials used. Aluminium and glass will get hot.

If you switched to an HTC M7 (and probably M8 I've not tried) that will get hot too - mine did. Plastic phones do not conduct the heat to the same degree.

It's not necassarily a problem, you just think it is or don't like it.

@Martin27 - You are indeed correct; the handset has a high end processer which in a PC would require a hefty heatsink and a fan to cool it. Obviously this is not possible in a phone so the body of the handset is designed to draw the heat from the internals. If a phone of this power did not get hot when using it I would be worried about the potential damage that heat would be doing to the internals of the handset.

Cooling it down with ice or water would be a fine way to crack your glass...

It even helps as it dissipates heat, unlike if it's plastic.
