Hello there,
I dropped my phone into water and it stopped working. I turned it off straight away- in 24 hours tried to turn it on- didn't help- put on charge- it showed a screen it was kind of turning on but then- black.
It was supposed to be waterproof! It was advertised like that when I purchased it in the end of 2015. What do I do now? Is it possible to fix? Does warranty cover it?
Thanks
Hi @TatianaX, I am terribly sorry to hear about this.
The Z3 Compact does have an IP-rating of IP65/68, meaning that the phone is able to endure both light sprays of water such as rain and being submerged into water to a limited depth, provided that all caps and hatches is closed and intact. For more information regarding the IP-ratings of your phone, click here.
If your phone has stopped working after it have been submerged into water, I suggest that you get in contact with your local support team in order to have your phone sent to an authorized service center to be examined and possibly repaired. If you have any questions regarding the service such as routines, warranty and consumer laws, these kind of questions are best answered by your local support team as well.
Let me know how it goes!
Hi Martin,
Thanks for your message. My phone was literally dropped for 30 seconds and t wasn't deep at all.
I contacted your support team in Australia and got a reply saying since I didn't buy this phone from Aus or NZ retailer (I bought mine back in Russia) they're not able to repair it and it's not covered by warranty as Sony doesn;'t provide international warranty on their devices (shame!) I got really upset, I've bought a new one already- the only thing I need from my old is pictures. Any ideas how I can retrieve them?
Hi again, @TatianaX and thank you for your quick reply.
I am very sorry to hear about that, but as i mentioned, warranty and consumer laws varies depending on which market you are located in, so I am afraid that as i mentioned, questions like these are best answered by your local support team.
When it comes down to the photos, you will not be able to access them from the internal memory if the phone does not start. The only way to retrieve the photos taken with your old device is if the photos have been backed up to Xperia Companion or if you have backed them up to Google Photos.
