2.3.4 A.0.42 update

I just got an alert for the .42 update.  Does anyone know what difference this update is versus the .283?

it's not worth it, you will have to re-root your phone and go through all that work, just wait for the next update Android 4.0 ice Cream sandwich, we will be able to uninstall preloaded apps w/o rooting or going through a lot of work Slightly_smiling_Face

nothing important, there are few extra apps (that can be uninstalled) but other than that nothing

Make sure you backup your phone

settings -> privacy -> back up my data and automatic restore should be selected and

Backup & Restore app

Use this links to download the apk

or

How to install it

You need to

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

download IO File Manager

https://market.android.com/details?id=org.openintents.filemanager&feature=search_result

download the backup & restore app, transfer it to your SD card, use OI file manager to find it -> tap on it -> install it

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email
on your computer
-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import
Apps

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone

SMS/MMS

if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then

Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result

or your SMS use

"backup & restore SMS"

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result

or for your MMS use "Save MMS"

Call Logs

And for call logs this is great

Ok well my phone is rooted and i have removed system files so I know i can not use OTA and have to use pc companion and update service.

BUT instead of using titanium backup to backup everything and reflash is it worth it?

What are the extra apps or differences?

For now i just froze update service so it stops telling me to update it but just need to know if there is any benefit, if there isn't i will just stay were i am on this version of 2.3.4 im on.

it will stay on 2.3.4 and it comes with macaffee which is pointless and it depends on market that they will add UEFA Champions League etc

why did you removed system files?

Ahh ok don't see much point in updating then.  I removed only select system files to gain some storage space seeing as were limited.

I removed some pre-loaded games as i had no interest in playing them as well as some pre loaded applications that i have no intent on using as well.

Worked out well as i now have about 65 user installed apps (including games) and still have 160 mb of internal space free.

Def i'm on the same page as you.   Can't wait for that 4.0.  Also excited for the playstation suite whenever they decide to release that, im hearing spring of 2012 though Slightly_frowning_Face

in the mean time, you can use emulators

2.3.4 is supposed to have a fix for the front facing camera that will hopefully enable me to join G+ hangouts with it. The fix is for Google Talk but I expect it should also fix the issue with G+
as well. It also fixes a few os vulenerabilities but probably nothing I'd lose sleep about. I'd consider skipping it too if I wasn't anxious about the ff camera and G+,
