Hi @Olly2, I'm sorry to hear about that.
While the SD card is inserted, could you try clearing app data for Media storage? This will force the device to start reading all the media on your device again which may help in detecting the SD card. To do so, go to Settings > Apps > Menu (3 dots in the top right) > Show system > Media storage > Storage > Clear data. When you've cleared the data, restart your device and give the device some time to read in all media again. The time it takes varies depending on how much media you have stored, however it is usually done within a few minutes.
Can you now see the SD card in your device under Settings > Storage? If it still does not appear, could you try to see if you can get your hands on a different SD cards in order to test if it's detected? Try to see if a friend, family member, colleague or someone similar may have an SD card to borrow you for a few minutes in order to try it out.
Keep me updated!
In that case, could you try to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion? By doing so we can see if what you're experiencing is soft- or hardware related.

Hi, I have an Xperia Z5 Compact. My old 32GB SD card worked fine but I upgraded to a 128GB card and it recognises the card then loses it after a while. If I plug it into my laptop the laptop recognises it which allows the phone to recognise it again but after a while it loses it again. I thought it may be a fault on the card and have had it replaced but the replacement is also doing the same now. Please help.
Thanks
Hi @Richyd123, I am sorry to hear that.
If you put in your old 32GB SD card, is it read correctly? If so, have you tried formatting the new SD card in your Xperia Z5 Compact? You may find instructions on how to do so on our website:
https://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz5compact/userguide/storage-and-memory/
Expand the topic named "To format the memory card".

Thanks for your response. I have formatted the SD Card but it hasn't solved the problem. Unfortunately I don't have the old card anymore but since I have already returned one as I thought it was the card at fault its unlikely a card issue.
I really need a solution to this as many of my apps are stored on the card.
I see @Richyd123, it was formatted directly in your device - yes? That does sound strange, but rather than there being something wrong with the card, it could be a compatibility question. For this reason, I recommend trying with a different card of a different brand/model (a shame you no lnger have the old ). Do you have any friend, family member or colleague which could borrow you their card for troubleshooting purposes?
