I've had my Z1 for approximately 2 weeks now and I've just gone to take a picture and it's sitting on a black screen for about 6 seconds and then popping up a box "Error! Camera not available!" After having this phone for such a short period of time, and the camera being the main selling point of the phone I'm somewhat dissapointed that I'm having issues already. Any suggestions on what might be causing this issue? Or anybody else having this issue/had this issue and knows of a fix? Last thing I want is to be stuck with a phone that has no camera for a 2 year contract when the entire reason for getting a new phone was to double as a camera for the start of Uni... Already had one night worth of pictures missed now because of this let down...

I have the same problem, and the accepted solution will not solve it for me as I do not, evidently have any Settings -> Apps -> All.....
I have Setttings -> Apps -> and then a list of apps, none of which have anything to do with the camera as far as I know.
I have an Xperia T, same problem, tryed almost everything, las thing was update service and reinstall, didnt work. i really was guessing this is a software issue, cause mine stopped working all of a sudden, i took a pic, program closed and when opened again there was the not available message.
Same issue here - about to return phone under warranty.
C6903, 4.3, firmware .290
Camera app fails to open 'Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.'
Third-party camera apps cannot connect to camera.
Diagnostics logs camera as crashing.
Curiously, camera has worked intermittently on a random reboot, but then quickly fails again.
Measures taken: Clearing cache, data, etc., starting in safe mode, hard reset, factory reset/repairing using PC companion, factory reset using Update service, randomly clearing cache/data and disabling various other apps, removing external SD and rebooting.
Of note, when phone was new and camera worked, I set it to save pics on external SD. However, I could never view these on a PC, only ever on the phone.
Having trawled this and other forums, and found similar reports of the camera failing, on other xperia devices, I am at a loss. The camera is a major draw, and my main reason for choosing the Z1 to replace my previous phone.
I also see no-one from Xperia support has commented in this thread - maybe they have no idea about how this happens/can be fixed. Perhaps this bump might engender a response. Or maybe I just haven't searched hard enough to find the answer.
Edit: Accessing services menu confirms 'Camera is not connected'.
Hi. Just sharing.
I also encountered the very same problem with my Z1 before. But after clearing data and forcing to stop all camera apps on Settings > Apps > All... It seems it still didn't work after restarting the phone many times.
When you encoutered Error again, try to boot to Safe Mode. First, turn off the phone the way it should be. Then when it is turned off, turn on the phone by holding the Volume Down button, then press power. Hold the Volume Down until you've reached the lockscreen, showing "Safe Mode" on the lower left.
Once you're into safe mode, check if the camera is now working. If it works, then there's nothing to worry about. Just go back to the normal boot by turning off the phone by pressing the Power button only. Then turn on the phone normally. After booting, check if the camera now works again.
Just a tip. If your phone has gone from off and you just turned it on, wait for some 1-2 minutes after boot and then go to Camera. Sometimes, it needs all of the apps to be loaded first before it works as normal.
If your camera didn't work on the Safe Mode, then go to your nearest service center to check.
Hey I had the same problem but then I figured the issue
first I got that error when I tried to record a video then I turned off the microphone so it worked ! but recording without voices
and that is problem too. So I figured there must be an app processing microphone and holding it for no reason
and after looking for it I found that was " magic jack " app using the microphone. I had to terminate the app and kill it from the root. THEN Camara problem was solved I didnt get that error message till I open the stopid magic jack app
I am also having this problem. The phone only starts properly every 10 tries. I have not been able to find out why it is happening but I have registered a support ticket with Sony support.
I too started having the same problem in Xperia M within a month of purchase.
1, Camera not working
2, Flash not working; neither with camera nor with torch app
3, Automatically getting in to silent mode
I am going to try factory reset. Hope it works.
