Greetings,
I have a couple of contacts that I have sent a few text messages, yet am unable to reply them since the message reply box is missing. If I want to send them a new text message, I have to write a new one instead of replying. What could cause this issue? I can reply to most of my contacts. I had this issue on my previous Xperia phone as well.
That sounds strange. The reply box should only be missing when there's no number to reply to (usually messages sent out by the operator and companies). If you open these conversations and look at the top, do you see a valid phone number under the name? Do you know if these contacts responded using their phones or if they responded using some type of web service or similar?
I confirmed that the number on top is correct and as far as I know these contacts use a smartphone.
You mentioned this also happend on your previous Xperia phone? Do you know if it happend for the same contacts in that phone?
What happens if you try another messaging app? You can for example try Google Messenger.
I've had this happen a couple of times using 'messaging' for texts, I've closed the app in the open apps page by tapping on the 'x' and then re opened it and it works fine.
Did you ever fix this issue? This same thing is happening to me with 1 contact. I've deleted the contact and re-entered it. # is correct and they are replying from an iphone (i have other iphone useres that this does not happen with)
I have just got a new phone and this is happening with one of my contacts. The phone number appears along with another number - I think this may be because she has synced her iPhone and ipad. However like you it means that I can't reply to her messages. My old Sony (M2) didn't have this issue.
Hello
I am having the same trouble. In the text message conversation history it would normally have a box at the bottom to input your text for sending, but this is missing. Was the question in this discussion answered? Thanks.
Regards
Greg
Same has been happening to me, only with one contact. I can't reply to messages (no box) and texts from this number appear to be from multiple numbers (I can't even see them all). It is very frustrating as it is someone I text with daily
I also have the same problem with one number.
An observation: if you delete the contact from the google contacts list, then when you view the number in the messages app, it appears with an extra character at the end of the number (the character is rendered as a box with a ? in it).
Maybe the presense of that character makes messages think that it's not a valid SMS recipient number?
Incidentally, some of the things I have tried, which did not work include: editing the number in contacts, deleting the number, deleting the contact, rebooting the phone after each of the previous.
