Phone won't switch on

My son's Experia X8 starts turning on but just before the lock screen it freezes and restarts and keeps repeating this process unless he removes the battery Slightly_frowning_Face

He has the phone approx 5 weeks. It has been doing this for 2 days. Any ideas please anyone??

Welcome. Another advice, read the on-screen instructions carefully and don't rush. Slightly_smiling_Face

A software repair should fix it (I believe it is a software issue). Let us know how it goes.

Hi Fivealive, I would suggest doing a Software repair (probably a software issue). Download and install the latest version of PC Companion or SE Update Service from the link provided, http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/topic/updateyourproductsoftware/xperiax8?cc=gb&lc=en.

Be aware that this process will erase the phone memory completely (SD Card memory not affected), therefore ensure that you do a backup.

Just in case you are unable to use PC Companion (due screen freezing and restarting), try SE Update Service as you can run the software repair without switching the phone on. One other thing, make sure phone is charged.

Thanks for both your helpful replies; my son is working his way through the instructions you gave in the second reply; he has no way of backing up the info as the phone won't turn on so unfortunately he will lose all his apps etc but at this stage he hasn't much choice.

Thankyou for all your help; my son isn't here today but last night his phone was all up and running and he was busy re-customising it for himself Slightly_smiling_Face Slightly_smiling_Face Slightly_smiling_Face

Is there any reason why this problem happened in the first place and is there anything we can do to prevent it happening again??

Glad that your son's X8 is back to life again :smileywink:.

Sorry, I don't have a definite answer for you. It could be due to software corruption, system unstable, downloaded apps (which require access to phone system files) and other unknown reasons. Therefore I am unable to advice how to prevent it from happening. I can only tell you one thing, NORMALLY it wouldn't happen.

Just make sure you have a recent backup ready (you won't know when you will be the next time you need it) Slightly_smiling_Face
