Hi all,
three days ago my Xperia mini pro displayed a new message "4.0.2.A.0.58 Neue Systemaktualisierung verfuegbar" ("new system update available", my system is in German).
I connected the Phone (SK17) to my desktop computer, PC Companion did an update of itself (now: Version 2.01.231, Production 18.2). I rebooted, connected the phone again, PC Companion starts, offers to update the phone, a new window opens with "1. Start, 2. Preparation, 3. Update ..."
the progress bar reaches "2." data are downloaded to the PC, when the progress bar reaches "3." (the actual update of the phone), the process ends with the error message "install error: components of the software update could not be installed oder started" (all translated from german, original english wording may vary).
At the end I am directed to the SE website which is of no help.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Tiberius.
Solved! Go to Solution.
any time, PCC has a lot of bugs, try SEUS instead
just install it -> run it -> select your device -> wait -> turn off your phone -> press and hold the back key and connect the usb cable when asked to do so (still holding the back button)
exact same problem here, any solution?
try Update Service (SEUS)
http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1317636927/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.10.7.exe
you can try to use SEUS w/o the SIM and SD cards on your phone
also
Make sure you backup everything
Settings -> privacy -> Back up my data and Automatic restore should be selected (this is only for 2.3.4 users)
and also
Use one of these links to download the
Backup & Restore app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193802
or

How to install it
You need to
go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources
download IO File Manager
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.openintents.filemanager&feature=search_result
download the backup & restore app, transfer it to your SD card, use OI file manager to find it -> tap on it -> install it
Contacts
just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already
open your phonebook
Don't worry so much about backing up your apps
on your computer go to
market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone
SMS/MMS
if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then
Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
or your SMS use
"backup & restore SMS"
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result
or for your MMS use "Save MMS"

thank you, but i m a 2.3.3 user ( i just bought this phone two weeks ago and I can't do already the first update).
Is there a solution for 2.3.3 isers? Or it does not matter, I just follow your steps
Anyway, thank you very much for your reply!
how come you cant update your phone?
there are 2 updates on 2.3.3 and 3 updates on 2.3.4.
so how come you can't update to 2.3.4? did you tried my suggestion to use Update Service?
remove both SD and SIM cards and try again
I have no idea why I can't update, I bought this phone just two weeks ago (it came with gingerbread 2.3.3). Last friday I received the first notice on my phone that an update was available (being 4.0.2.A.0.58), I followed the instuctions even installed PC companion after the first failure, in order to try to update by PC. However, it didn't work out either. Im not sure if this is caused by not having 2.3.4, but I never received any instruction nor word that an update to 2.3.4 is available.
Anyway, I will try to follow your suggestions, thank you for your help!
SEUS did the job
thanks!!!
im on 4.3.4 and 4.0.2.A.0.58 woehoee
I'm glad I could help
