VAIO laptop stopped working during Windows 10 update

My Vaio laptop stopped working a couple days ago.  The Windows 10 update crashed before it was complete. 

Now I can reach the login screen, and sometimes login and get to the Windows desktop, but then the system hangs (no user folders or icons on the desktop, desktop is not responsive).

I spoke to Microsoft support and they said that this model needs updated SONY drivers to be compatible with Win 10.  Is there a way to update the drivers and recover the machine without doing a factory reset and losing all data?
