Hello
You must be slightly pressing it that is the focus sound which you mentioned.
Here is how to use the button correctly...
Softly press and hold to focus at this point a white box will change to a slightly blue bordered box and will give a sound.
Now, press it more to click the focused image.
It is a two step process. But once you master it i.e. minimize the shake etc this method gives the best results for photos.
