Hi All;
Is Netflix available for the KD55X8509C TV pls?
I cannot believe that Sony has released a TV which includes the Netflix button on their remote control but no support for Netflix?
Many thanks
Lucio

OK so the quickest way to get Netflix working is to download the APK from here https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netflix-inc/netflix-for-android-tv/netflix-2-1-build-425-android-apk-d... copy it to a USB stick and insert it into the TV.
Goto https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop and tell it to install to your TV (make sure you're logged into your google account on the TV).
You'll need to make sure you allow installs from "Unknown Sources" which is under Settings > Security & Restrictions
On ES File Explorer on your TV navigate down to your USB stick (left hand side, just keep pressing down) and then click on the APK, then on Install.
Load up netflix and sign in / up
Enjoy the 4K goodness
Thanks for the extra info.
This error is very similar to UI-800-2, and this thread may help. See if proceeding as described there helps at all.
Hi, I have a case opened for the KD-49X8305C with the same issue which has been "escalated to a higher technical team" whatever that means. I'll advise back if I hear from the support team.
FYI, this is the list of issues to date with the kd-49x8305c Android TV. Interested to know if you're hitting the same. If the same issues are on both model lines it's more likely to be firmware issues with Android TV....
1) Hot swap HDMI doesn't work.
2) HDD recording doesn't work (error message saying a system update is required, see reference manual).
3) Netflix App doesn't work (logged a case for this one).
4) Speech / Video sync is broken after TV has been left on for a few hours in standby.

Currys are currently quoting on their advert page for that TV:
"Netflix - Service availability depends on country. 4K Ultra HD availability subject to your Netflix subscription plan, internet service, device capabilities and content availability. This feature will be available via a firmware update in summer 2015."
Don't know if that helps while you await a response from the technical team.
Cheers. Just had a look at the sony.co.uk site and the USB HDD recording has a footnote saying "3 This feature will be available via a firmware update in Summer 2015."
Seems like the firmware is lagging the hardware by a fair way.....
The netflix apk is deinately installed using the instructions from http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/android-tv-guides/how-to-sideload-apps-apk-files-on-the-nexus-play... I tried installing the Netflix APK from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netflix-inc/netflix-for-android-tv/netflix-android-tv-2-0-build-295-an...(the newerversion is for android 5.1.1 and our TV is 5.0.2) but it wouldn't install because a newer build is already installed - 2.1 build 425
I'm guessing it's disabled
Good news!!
I installed an APK extractor and got the disabled APK from the TV - I then tried installing it again
Voila - Netflix is now avaiable
I've uploaded Netflix for Androdid TV 2.1 build 425 to apkmirror and I'm not sure how long it'll take to show up there - I've put it on my dropbox if you want to try installing it yourself https://www.dropbox.com/s/9uj0aedwtwgljqj/Netflix_2.1%20build%20425_425.apk?dl=0 - if you don't trust me though run an APK extractor program to get it yourself from your TV - I used https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/meher/apk-extractor/apk-extractor-3-03-android-apk-download/ manually installed using the instructions at http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/android-tv-guides/how-to-sideload-apps-apk-files-on-the-nexus-play...
Signed up to 4k Netflix - Daredevil looks great - there's no Dolby Digital pass through yet - that's in the next version 2.2 which is only installable on Android 5.1.1 - we'll just have to wait for that to be released
Cheers for the instructions. That's one hell of a workaround to enable something on TVs that cost a couple of grand when it should have been ready for launch day...
I'll wait until it's enabled by a firmware update, hopefully soon. Not comfortable having to essentially hack my TV to get something working..... 😞
My guess it was deliberately disabled by Sony - perhaps there's a known bug they're trying to fix that I've not spotted yet. Sometimes companies would rather hold back on these things than risk being plagued by reports of broken features
