Hello
The lower and right hand side portions of my xperia 5 are full of microscratches, more like abrasion of sorts. This is weird as my other Sony phones have not been scratched this much even after a few years of use. I don't have a protective film (as I have never needed one before) and use the official transparent case. I have removed one protective film from the phone when starting to use it.
I'm not sure but I don't think the display got scratched before I started using the case/cover.
Is the glass on Xperia 5 seriously this bad?
Blame Gorillaglass 6.... It is much worse on Pixel 4 than on Xperia 5
The display has kept getting more and more scratches even though I used a screen protector for a while and am still using a case. Is this possibly a manufacturing defect as my back glass is basically flawless currently? I highly suspect that they should be the same material and if anything, the front glass should be better than the back glass...
No, it's a sign your pockets are dirty, or where you keep the phone is, and possibly, some grit/dirt has gotten in between the case/screen, which has caused it to scratch.
Not a manufacturing default, it's the users fault.
Weirdly enough, my XZ1 compact is also basically scratch free. Nothing in my life has significantly changed. A crapload of sand has not magically appeared in my pockets as I changed phones.
Well, the damage on your phone says different.
Take this as a learning experience fella.
ALWAYS purchase a screen protector with your phone, no matter how clean or careful you think you are.
Yeah I absolutely am, probably going to be my last Sony ever sadly. I've had a smartphone for 10ish years, never used a screen protector and this is my first phone EVER that has gotten disturbing scratches EVEN THOUGH I am using a full case.
