Hi Everyone,
Ive had an annoying thing happen when setting up my new Xperia 1. I set it up as normal, entered a new PIN (same one I've used for years), then registered my thumbprint.
The phone then reset after some updates (I think) and asked for my PIN. Somehow, it's not not recognising my PIN, so I've no way to get into the phone!
My provider is Vodafone, who have been useless so far. I don't care about any data on the phone as there is none, does anyone know how to hard reset the Xperia 1 from the phone itself? There is an option that apparently works, using a PC, but I don't have one, so that's going to be difficult!
The chap in the Vodafone shop said almost every phone has a way to hard reset from the phone alone, usually holding down various buttons, but he didn't know the combination of buttons/actions for the Xperia 1 as its so new...
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most grateful, I've not been able to use my new phone yet!

Hi @Mattb3, let me see if I can help out here
I am afraid that there is no button combination that you can use in order to reset the phone and get access to the phone. My suggestion is to repair the software in the phone using a computer and Xperia Companion.
Keep in mind that since you are not able to start the phone, you will need to start the repair process without the phone connected to the computer and check the box in the bottom left corner next to the text "My device cannot be detected or started, or is a Smartwatch 3".
I hope that helped!
Isn't the menu Power+ Volume down, until SONY logo, then pick factory reset/wipe data from the list?
And the code you entered, is that the lock code for the phone, or the sim unlock code from a previous phone?
Are you sure it's asking for the phone pin and not sim lock pin.
Stranger things have happened.!
Hi RottenFoxBreath,
Thank you for the reply. It's definitely asking for the screen lock PIN, rather than a sim lock PIN.
Ive tried holding power + volume up and power + volume down, along with just about every button combination I can think of. None seem to have worked unfortunately.

As it's a brand new phone I'd just change it
Nathaniel, unfortunately Vodafone actually told me they wouldn't accept the handset back as it's not in a sellable condition!
Luckily I have sorted it now!
Hi Martin,
Thanks, I borrowed a friend's laptop and that solution worked!
Many thanks,
Matt
No worries @Mattb3!
I am glad to hear that you managed to sort it out!
Feel free to return if more questions comes up regarding your phone!
This is almost word for word what has happened to my phone, its crazy that my finger print wont open it as I would have thought that would be more secure than a pass code. Ive tried everything , nothing is working. Ive only had my phone 2 days. HELP
Hi @Gizmo1967,
As i mentioned earlier in the thread, the easiest way to get access to the phone again if you are locked out by a screen lock is to do a software repair using Xperia Companion.
Keep in mind that since you are not able to start the phone, you will need to start the repair process without the phone connected to the computer and check the box in the bottom left corner next to the text "My device cannot be detected or started, or is a Smartwatch 3".
