when i first saw the official video for the 1 i noticed that some scenes show it with a square screen with no rounded corners, i got this almost confirmed with this video

as you can see the rounded corners disappear, and theres no black bars meaning the rounded corners are most likely just black pixels covering the corner to look round like the rounded corner apps you can download, this to me is great news as i want a square screen i am sure other people also prefer a perfectly flat square screen and well i am nearly positive that it's rombased meaning sony could provide a way to turn it off or you could flash a new rom to get rid of the corners.
No, it's physically rounded.
I think ZZCOOL is right. but it seems not all movie contents show without round corners
It is the same case for the Xperia 10/10 Plus. From what I see it seems that in 21:9 videos it leaves small black bars in the top and bottom hence it doesn't cover all the area of the screen..
Could it be that the new 21:9 screens aren't precisely 21:9? Because it's the same case for the Xperia 10 Plus, I have tested it in a retail unit, it seems that 21:9 videos do not cover all the area of the screen and leave tiny black bars on top and bottom..
##Last year huawei p20 pro is the best camera sony given that 43 sensor 😏but now you are using xperia 1 samsung sensors very bad for son

I totally agree with ZZCOOL - rounded corners (and curved displays as well) serve no real purpose (except marketing) and take away pixels from the content. It's impossible nowadays to find a flagship phone with bezels (no notches), flat display (no curved edges), square screen (no rounded corners), 16:9 ratio & headphone jack. Just because something is possible, doesn't mean it's a good idea - just look at Meizu Zero's resounding crowdfunding failure. Designers & marketing departments keep forcing their shallow ideas upon consumers and don't leave them a choice. I hope Sony will take notice. If you want to promote the 21:9 ratio (Xperia 1/10/10 Plus), don't just take away the 16:9 option, why not offer models with various ratios to consumers and maybe even make a dual-screen phone - one side 16:9 and the other 21:9. Everybody would be happy with having a choice.
can confirm it's hardwarebased i got rid of it by adding extra bezels
