Xperia Z won't charge unless completely drained.

Few days ago I noticed that my Xperia Z won't charge. I tried force restarting, charging when turned off, nothing works. The cord and power outlet is fine. I decided to slept on it, leaving my phone on the charger and woke up the next day with my phone fully charged. I tried this yesterday and it works like that as well. however I cannot connect my phone to the computer  (the computer says your device malfunctioned or something like that) or charge it when it's not drained. Any idea what's going on?

You could have an app always running that it's not allowing your phone to charge. Try to boot your phone in safe mode and check if it charge normally. If it does, a software repair could help but then pay attention to what app is keeping your phone busy.

This is how to boo on safe mode

As for the battery / charging behaviour

We'll need more info to better assist you

charge the phone 100% use it as you normally would then once the battery reaches 10%

settings > power management > battery > take screenshots of:

1. the list
2. tap on the graph and take a screenshot
3. back > tap on the top 4 items on the list > take a screenshot of each

post them all here or upload the screenshots to box or dropbox or google drive or etc and post the link

I tried factory resetting my device and booting on safe mode, neither works. Thanks for the help though.

Will do. Honestly I don't think it's a software problem because the charging works fine until the last 2 days, and I haven't installed any new apps or software onto my phone. I tried factory resetting and booting in safe mode too, neither works. It refuses to charge until my phone is completely drained and turned off.

I will try to, the problem is my computer doesn't recognize the device (it says thay my device malfunctions). And I will have to charge my battery to full before doing a system repair right? It will take a while.

@mashare

That might be a hardware issue.

Any idea where the problem might come from? This is a pretty specific issue. I haven't had any severe bumps or water damage done to my phone. I'm suspecting the battery.

Hard to tell, but it might be the battery, you have to contact your Local support to get it inspected
