Hello everyone,
I registered on this forum specifically to share my very disappointing experience with Sony Mobile products.
In brief I recently got my first Sony phone - Xperia Z5 compact. The first phone I got worked for 2 days and then its speaker stopped working spontanously so the phone was unable to make any phone calls.
The phone company I use was kind enough to replace this phone. After wasting 2 precious working days in shifting data and re-setting up the phone, the replacement fared no better. In about 10 days after a really minor fall from less than 2 feet ( 40 cm or so), the screen cracked at the top right hand corner. The crack itself was less than 1cm.
This rendered the touchscreen unresponsive and the phone unusable. I have seen phones fall, thrown or dropped from much greater heights. I have also seen screens shattered to pieces that still seem to work. Branding Xperia Z5 as premium and being so fragile and unreliable baffles me.
After yet another day of salvaging data with an USB mouse, I contacted the official service center ( run by my phone company) and they requested nearly 140 EUR for the repair.
In addition I contacted the Sony Support service and explained the situation. I also explained the minor fall the phone suffered and how disappointed I am at the product. Yet they responded with copy&paste stuff from the ToS ( I don't blame them per say because usually those policies are set centrally).
So I wanted to ask fellow Sony users - have you had such disappointing experiences yourself or am I exceptionally unlucky?
Also in my own experience many other much cheaper smartphone brands offer higher reliability and durability? Again am I alone in thinking Sony does not match its past glory as a great electronics producer.
I'd be happy to understand more about this.
It may be that I just chose a bad model, but I personally would not recommend the Sony smartphones to friends and family any more. Would you?
I'm sorry to hear about your issue, but there isn't much anyone can suggest here as this was not a factory issue, you should buy a protective case and film whenever you get your phone fixed.
Hi Everyone,
I been moving from Samsung to sony for the last 4 years , I normally upgrade every 6 to 9 months. And test the phone for a while.
I believe I'm a heavy user, when I purchase something that has the specs of a small computer I expected it to work as an extension of my ecosystem of devices otherwise whats the point !,
By ecosystems I mean. (Mac, PC , Tablet, Android TV , Chromecast, XBOX , Watch, earphones, camera )
So I bought (very hopeful) the Xperia Z5 Compact.
The size it's awesome, is thicker that a lot of it's competitors but that's a good thing, easy to hold and to manipulate.
It feel solid and reliable , all good so far.
Until you start actually giving a proper use, the screen cracked in my pocket after 4 weeks, Although it looks like a tough little guy , is more of a 18 century porcelan screen. If your screen crack you need to replace it, it can't be use if the screen has a small, medium or large dint, the "sony answer" is because is so sensitive, high quality and complex that is the price to pay for a premium phone. Oh my! oh my!, is so complex and highquality that the original screen is 110 dollars original 190 installed, same price as any other screen, if not cheaper.
Other than that the phone is pretty ....... Oh wait, the phone doesn't protect it's content making the downloads folders interactable with other folders . (That should be on your setting conditions not in the default, so every time a file downloads the phone will confirm you want to make it accessible by other apps, annoying ....yes, but is the minimal level of security to not get you phone all screwed)
But still a good pho....... my battery doesn't charge now, and the back of the phone is showing a slide vent,.....\
My screen broke again too (both time fixed by Sony preferred technician in Queensland) I live in Melbourne , that like living in Livign in Japan but have to send my phone to hong kong to get fix.
My overall review....
I'm selling my Vaio, Sony Watch , Exmor camera, and Z5... and not I'm not going to samsung, as it just doesn't offer the same range.
I think the winning combo is ... sadly ..... Hawei , or under 650 buck phone with good specs, Go Pro , normal Watch , and I'm going with Dell XPS ..
Thanks Sony for the good memories, I wish you the best... But we are just too different you an I .
Oz.
I'm sorry to hear about your issue, but you might want to contact your Local support as this is a user based forum.
Same experience here. My Z5c dropped from about a 2 feet and craxked the screen making it totally unusable. The phone works but I can't enter any data via the screen. I have had cracked screens befire on other devices and still manage to habe some usability but not with z5c. Sad and why I don't buy Sony any longer or LG at that.
The screen shouldn't crack that easily. My protective cover was on mine and it shattered like a porcelian tea cup. The heat this phone generates could be used melt icebergs.
I think you just had a bad luck there, with a point of impact that damaged your phone that easy. I have the phone since day 1 and for sure it had some nasty falls, but fortunately its screen still intact.
Yes I've had 2 Xperia, a z3 and a z5, both have been terrible. I'd never broken a screen before or since with any other brand but my z3 screen and touch broke 3 times within weeks of each other. I was then given a z5 as a replacement and the back glass broke 4 times and then the phone got completely destroyed when I was getting into my car and it bent in my pocket so that the back and front were completely shattered and the insides were hanging out. The phones are flimsy rubbish. Who's great idea was it to make the back out of glass?? I've moved back to HTC now as my previous ones were dropped and bent so many times but never got damaged. I'd never get a Sony again.
