Ok - getting annoyed with this now.
When I go in to the messaging app there are no messages and eventually I get a message to says it's stopped responding and do I want to wait or close the app.
I have tried clearing the cache and even tried the clearing the settings so I could restore a backup
However it still doesn't work after clearing the settings so I installed the google messenger app. That has no messages either and won't let me send any (although at least my contacts show in that one. I am now trying Textra and it's just sat there saying 'Textra is busy setting up' and has so far been like that for about 10 mins
Please help I really need my texts back asap this is a real problem

Yes I know that is the stock answer but I was trying to fix it before doing that :smileysmileywink:
Finally I have got somewhere so I'll close this now. FYI:
- I removed the additional messaging programs
- Rebooted
- Did a restore on my messages from the backup I did earlier
- This left the message app loading but no messages strangely
- Currently restoring messages from my last backup a couple of days ago and I can see they are appearing in my messaging app now so I'm letting that finish before I start testing texting
I am guessing the update corrupted my message store and what I have done has created a new blank one to repopulate.
The repair was a last resort for me...which I will do if I still have issues after this
Cheers.
Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

Hi don't know if this is already solved in some forum. For me the following trick worked.
Use the link http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz2/kb/02310188062479649013b85478398007a6a/
Go to where you can set the smsc.
Push refresh you will see "+xxxxxxxxxx",145
The 145 is an extra code indicating it's an international number.
Edit this number and remove the ,145 so you will get "+xxxxxxxxxx"
Then push the update button.
(some xtra details http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433433)
Go back and check if it works. For me this did the trick.
(I think the messenger app does not handle well the international code, but not sure of course would need source code to verify that one )

Hello,
After updating my Sony Z3 to Android 5.1.1 the SMS sttoped working.
I repaired the cell phone using PC Companion and it started working again, but when I brought back the back up, the SMS sttoped working once more.
Anyone could help with this problem ?
Thanks for that super advice!
For me it wouldn't work to save the number with the deleted ,145 - it changed back again BUT I just corrected the SMSC number in the Messaging App Settings and now it works.
