Micro Sd card not being read

I have a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and I am using a 64Gb micro SD card (SanDisk Ultra Plus) but when the micro SD card is in the phone, the phone does not read it. I cannot access the micro SD card. When I click on storage in settings only the internal memory shows up.

The micro SD card is brand new and shows up when o put it into my laptop. How can I get the micro SD card to work in my phone?

Good Evening,

My Z5 compact recently stopped recognising the Micro SD Card.

Having found this thread, i followed the instructions. I had previously tried a reboot but did it again anyway. There was no change.

I then went to Companion and initiated a software repair. This stopped part way through, giving me the message that something had gone wrong and to try again.

I can't try again because i can now not turn the phone on. I have blank screen with the green light to tell me that it's fuly charged. My laptop is now not recognising the phone. Pressing and holding the power button does nothing. I have tried connecting to the usb cable with the volume down button pressed but still nothing is registering anywhere. It's not showing up under "this PC" and Companion isn't finding it either......

Please can you help?

Thank you.

Hi @NathanDWalsh;

In the Xperia Companion you have the option to repair the phone software without having the ability to turn the phone on, have you tried that?

Thank you for getting back to me. Yes, I think i did try that. That's when I had to hold the "volume down" button while reconnecting the phone. It doesn't say how long i should then have to wait. I think i left it a minute or so last time. Is it worth leaving it for longer?

Thank you

@NathanDWalsh;

Did you tried pressing the off button for 2 minutes?

To force a 2-minute restart

Forcing Sony Xperia™ Z5 Compact to shut down

  1. Open the SIM card slot cover.
  2. Using the tip of a pen or similar object, press and hold down the OFF button for 120 seconds, ignoring any vibrations, and then release the OFF button.
  3. Charge the device until a charging icon appears on the screen.
  4. Turn on the device.

If after this you can not software repair the device I think you must contact your local Xperia Support to get your device looked at.

Thank you NunoSEN2

I appear to be up and running and am a fully functioning member of society again. I had forgotten that button was there. I really appreciate your help.

Best Wishes

Firstly, connect your SD card to another device to check whether your SD card is faulty.
If your SD card is connected to PC but is still not reading in File Explorer, you can go to Disk Management to check whether drive letter of SD card is missing or disappearing.
If it's so, you need to assign a new drive letter to your card and make it recognizable again with the steps below:
Open Run dialogue by pressing “Windows” + “R” at the same time.
Open Disk Management by inputting "diskmgmt.msc."
Find the SD card, right-click the partition on it, then select"Change Drive Letter and Path…".
Assign the drive letter of your SD card by clicking "Add" in the pop-up window.
I had the same problem before, my SD card not reading, and the data lost. I solve it by using Bitwar Data Recovery. Maybe you can try it.
