Was there any change when you adjusted the network type to 2G, or was the microphone still not working correctly?

You can also try with a different SIM card, if you can borrow one from a friend, colleague or family member and see if there is any change.

I have tried that, yes. 

When the problem occurs, Easy Voice Recorder will come up with an error message - something like "Couldn't access microphone" or something similar. 

I have recently tried deleting all cache on the phone and for two days I have not experienced the problem. Whether it is resoved remains to be seen. 

If it isn't - what should be my next step?

@T-H, that's good to hear and hopefully it continues to work.

If the behaviour appears again, try restarting your device in safe mode and see if there is any change when downloaded applications aren't started, as they will be temporarily disabled in this mode, but they will be activated again when the device is restarted back to the normal mode, so no data will be lost.

Should there be no change even in this mode, a software repair is the last step that you can do on your own and this will delete all data stored on the device and the software will be reinstalled. You should of course create a backup since data is being deleted.
