Lost my contacts after update

I just noticed that after the most recent update to my Xperia Ion my entire contact list has been wiped clean. how do I recover this? Please tell me there is a simple method to this madness.

Thanks in advance. I'm new to android. never had this issue with my windows or iphone.

did you synced with google?

on your computer go to your gmail > contacts > do you see your contacts there? if you do then

on your phone's phonebook > menu > filter > google

Avoid such answers, people do not simply delete all their contacts.

I have the same, all contacts are gone. Obviosuly Sony is not thinking straight, does not matter if it is an issue of singing with Google or not.

The matter is that I now have to shuffled through forums and with a bit of luck get my contacts back

A lot of wasted time that I would rather sepnd on my business
