DSC HX50 - sensitive control wheel

Hi,

I have a DSC HX50 - it's about 24 months old with very little use. It has developed a fault with the control wheel in that it has become hyper sensitive to the point that it scrolls through options without touching it. Coincidently my daughter has the same camera (on my recommendation!) and it has developed the exact same fault. My main question is whether anyone else has encountered this problem or even if it is a known fault Also, if there is a known easy fix.

Thanks

James

Hi sparkyjack and welcome.

It probably needs an internal clean by an engineer.

I am not recommending it, but have you read this:-

Thanks Blencogo - That really helps and I'm up for giving it a try.

I'm in northern UK so we don't have RadioShack but I've found what looks like a good alternative in 'Specialist Electronic contact cleaner' at Screwfix.

I'll leave feedback on how it goes.

Thanks again.

Just providing feedback for anyone who encounters similar problem.

Used the Air duster to dislodge any big bits of dirt that may have been in the wheel but that didn't seem to help much - then used the 'electronic contact cleaner sparingly, and rotated the wheel quite vigorously. It's impossible to get anything, (including the suggested flattened straw) inside or beneath the wheel so you are squirting it blindly. Anyway it worked really well.

thanks again Blencogo for flagging it up.

Hello, i had the same problem. To solve this turn off the camera press hard on rotating button and rotate it around while still pressing hard on it. Do it several times. Should cure the problem. Good luck.
