System hangs

Hi. Today my Xperia act strangly- After opening cover l've tried to unlock the screen but nothing happened.Only physical  buttons were active and nothing happened when I was touching the screen. I couldn't even  restart the phone without ejecting SIM card. What issue is this? Now screen is ok...what should I do?

@sachmetztli

If it only happened once, you shouldn't worry about it, make sure that you have the latest update installed.

Side note, you can restart the phone if you press & hold both power & volume up for 10 seconds.

Hi @sachmetztli, sorry to hear about this. Slightly_frowning_Face

If it has only occurred once it's very hard to troubleshoot this, but please keep an eye out if it should occur again and if you can try and remember exactly what you did just before it occurred, for example used a specific app.

As @uliwooly mentioned and since you can't remove the battery, you can instead force the device to restart by holding down the power button and volume up at the same time until you notice a vibration > release the keys. If you want it to shut down instead, keep holding the buttons pressed for a few more seconds after you notice the first vibration.

Keep us posted but hopefully it won't occur again.

Have a nice weekend! Slightly_smiling_Face

It's a good habit to restart your device once a week.

Maybe you even received a notice about that from your phone.

I've just got my Xperia 5 and was using the XZ2 prior. I love Sony phones but this new one is really testing me. Fingerprint reader is hit and miss, phone freezes occasionally and sometimes requires a soft reset. I really want to love it but am struggling. The only reason I upgraded was because I could get a pair of Sony wireless ear buds as per the promotion. If the free earphones were not available I don't think I would have gone for this phone

@falcoreeni

If your Xperia 5 is freezing occasionally I suggest you check if

- it's better without the SD-card (maybe its controller is defective)

- a 3rd party app is causing troubles (in an other forum one guy found that the systemwide ad-blocker he was using caused freezes and waiting times)

I have the Xperia 5 for 2 weeks now and never encountered freezes or problems.

Hi all.

Thank  You for all replies

I do not use any of threse (Additional  SD card or 3rd party apps). In fact a few days ago I've  had same situation again. It looks like It is happening when I leave any app open and close the Sony cover. After opening It I can't do nothing else than restart the phone (Thanks for the tip with restarting ^^). Strange is that it is not happening always:/

Never had an issue with the phone not recognizing your fingerprint while unlocking the phone?

It is working, but after screen turn on I can't do nothing -lt is not responding when I'm touching the screen. As it starting to do like this more often I'm considering to send it for repair...

Hi again @sachmetztli, sorry for the late reply.

It would be strange if the cover was the culprit here and it's always safer to use the device with the cover, however, would it be possible for you to test without the cover attached and see if it continues to occur?

If it occurs even with the cover not attached and before sending the device to service, try performing a software repair using Xperia Companion. This will delete all data stored on the internal storage of the device and reinstall the latest available software. To backup your data, follow the instructions below.

  1. Find and tap Settings > System > Advanced > Backup.
  2. Tap the switch beside Back up to Google Drive to turn the feature on.
  3. Tap Account, then choose a Google account to use.
  4. Tap OK > DONE.

To backup photos and if you haven't used Google Photos before:

  1. Make sure that you're signed in on your device with the Google account you want to use for back up and sync.
  2. Find and tap Photos. The first time you open the app, a Back up & sync window opens in the lower part of the screen.
  3. Check that the switch to the right of Back up & sync is active.
  4. Check that the shown Google account is the one you want to use for back up and sync, then tap Confirm.

If you have already used Google Photos:

  1. Make sure that you're signed in on your device with the Google account you want to use for back up and sync.
  2. Find and tap Photos
  3. In the upper right corner, tap the cloud icon. When Back up & sync is not active, the cloud icon has an oblique line.
  4. Tap the switch next to Back up & sync is off to turn the feature on.
  5. Check that the shown Google account is the one you want to use for back up and sync, then tap Confirm.

Once the software repair is complete, restore the backup by following the instructions below.

  1. Turn on your device.
  2. When prompted in the setup guide, connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  3. When prompted in the setup guide to Copy apps & data, tap NEXT.
  4. Tap either A backup from an Android phone or A backup from the cloud. Both options allow you to restore data from Google Drive.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your data.

Sorry for the wall text and it's time to make some threads for how to do this without Xperia Companion!

Keep us posted! Slightly_smiling_Face
