Xperia Series did have 4K screen before but they can not play Netflix in 4K. Will Xperia 1 support that?
It seems Xperia 1 can play Netflix and Amazon video in 4K, I read in gsmarea Xperia 1 review.
https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_1-review-1941p3.php
but I would love to see test pattern results on it.
Ran 2 test patterns videos. First, the 4k30fps one, maxed out at only HD resolution, while the 4k60fps one maxed out at FHD resulution. So don't really know what to think. But 4k playback that's for sure.
This was tested with wifi that has a 150mbps bandwidth and premium Netflix account.
I can’t tell or not, but one thing I can say, watching Netflix shows are difficult. Think the HDR makes everything so dark and details are gone even with brightness set to max.
Also update on Amazon 4K...The new show God Omens is UHD 4K and on the phone it only plays 1080p. Download doesn't provide 4k option only best option and it plays 1080p.
Chatted with Amazon support and they said they have no restrictions on and if there is no 4k download option then the device can't watch in 4k. They suggest to check with Sony.
I'm having the same issues, will only play upto 1080 p and also Netflix will not show any 4k in the menus. When searched for 4k it just shows hdr in the title.
I can't find any help with this .
I might be wrong, but I believe Netflix only streams 1080p to mobile devices.
Worth asking them tbh
Its very disappointing that they restrict Xperia 1 from 4k content. I was trying contact with support but every time got same answer.
wow.. that's bothering..
one more: when starting the pre installed netflix app, the xperia one changes the display to director's mode, that means, it will upscale rgb, 709 or p3 material to bt2020 HDR colorspace with a sony software and not use the actual HDR colorspace provided by the movie and netflix.
that tells me that this device doesn't support dolby vision profiles.
i also noticed that stranger things 3 is sooooo dark. even when turning the brightness of the screen all to maximum, the brightness is still way too dark in the lower spectrum.
this might be related to the directors mode that will take the colorspace it gets and stretches it to a higher dynamic range, therefore achieving brighter whites, more colorful colors but also darker blacks.. while thats good to see a real 0.8 black, it shifts the darker areas into total darkness.
oh man... sony what are you doing again. just cooperate with netflix like you did with the dolby vision TVs and get a goddamn Dolby Vision certificate so netflix can provide you with dv hdr, couldn't be that hard if that phone supports bt2020 and such a deep black and even got an oled screen.
sure.. if netflix only provides that phone with P3, and directors mode ups that colorspace to fit the dynamic of the phone.. it's fecked.. and i'm sure that's "NOT" how the director would have wanted you to watch it ..
It's not that it's restricted, its just not been added yet.
Get in touch with them, badger them to add it, and eventually it will get added.
It took about 4 months for my last phone to be added, to be honest.
