      <title>USB HDD not recording</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;I bought a Sony Bravia KDL-49WE663 a couple of years ago and have been happily recording and watching those recorded programs for over a year now.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;However, last week I got a message "Registered HDD is not connected. Connect a device to the USB port for recording."&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Despite removing and reconnecting cables and powering everything off and on again several times, I haven't been able to get the HDD to be recognised. So, I can't watch any recordings or record any more programs. Does anyone know a way to resolve this issue? Thanks.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

I had been a bit reluctant to do the factory reset option, as I wasn't sure what else I might have to reconfigure afterwards. However, I went ahead with it and the issue has indeed been resolved.
