Hello edneilly - welcome to the Sony Forums.

For your camcorder, it has been tested by Sony and appears to be compatible with Windows 7 as long as it is a version of Windows 7 that has been pre-installed on your machine i.e. at the factory. If it is a version that you have installed yourself, it may not work.

Looking at the testing table, Windows Movie Maker works correctly in Windows 7 with the DCR-TRV22E so I would advise trying the camcorder with this software first. If you do not already have Movie Maker, it is a free download using the Windows Live service which can be found here:
