My camcorder is virtually impossible to use in sunlight as the screen acts as a mirror and all I can see is my face ! Model SR- 58E

Hi martinguy, welcome to the forums!

This is a common complaint; sometimes screens are a little dimmer than they might be, as cameras are designed more for power-saving than super-bright, battery-hogging display. The SR-58E isn't particularly good in bright sunshine, as you've noticed. The old method was to use the optical viewfinder, but you do get a much more compact camera without one... there are tradeoffs for all this, and the reflection thing is one of them.

You'll get those reflections with any display if the sun is ahead of you. You'll reduce them with the sun to one side or more to the rear; try to position yourself adjacent to the prevailing light, shielding the display with your hand if the sun's towards the rear.

You have to have the presence of mind to 'set up' that way before you start shooting, but it should help combat the problem.
