topic Using CM5 in pair for 3d stereo shooting - does A/V connector support lanc? in Camcorders

Hi all,

this little cam seems really nice for 3d stereo shooting - by just using two of CM5s in a stereo pair. This would be a nice answer in the consumer range to the optical stereo adapters for single-cameras - which all works with sharing the resolution or the frame rate between the two eyes, causing a huge degradation of the picture quality per eye. This cam is thin enough to use a pair in a real human eye-distance, affordable enough to buy two if I am a stereo-3d enthusiast, and have enough details by its HD1080p picture quality to give nice results on consumer HD 3d displays. This would be a nice base to start video-blogging in 3d, of course, paired camera bundles with special Vegas edition included would also help a lot.

The only important issue is to keep the two cameras synced in all optical parameters. Of course, a generic support from Sony would be the real solution - as a part of the dream mentioned above. But anyways, does anybody know if the A/V connector (Sony's own 10-pin "D" connector) supports LANC protocol via proper cable adapter? (Like this one: http://www.studio1productions.com/lanc-sa.htm ) This feature would let me use 3rd party stereo-lanc controllers, lightweight stereo mounts, etc. In case I could just solve lens parameter sync between the two CM5s, I would start building my own stereo mount with convergence synced to focus and cam distance synced to optical zoom. In this size, this could be a big challenge, but not much bigger than building an RC aircraft.

Does anybody ever tried to make 3d stereo videos with this camera? I would really like to see the results !

thanks,

gus
