New camera won't turn on

I purchased the Sony A7 (ILCE-7) online and it arrived today. I charged the camera using the AC adaptor for several hours and the camera did not turn on. I've read the manual inside out and it is driving my crazy! It says that I must re-insert the battery if the light is flashing, which I have done numerous times. However, it is still flashing (charging must be faulty) and the camera will not turn on despite my efforts all day. I feel that I have may overlooked a simple step? This is really stressing me out and would be helpful if anyone had any input... I have researched this matter and many say that it could be that the actual camera is faulty (which would be infuriating considering the price!) Thank you in advance
