STR 1080 AV Receiver & KD-49XE9005

Hi all

I am new to sony products and have a couple of questions.

As per the instructions I connected the TV via the HDMI (ARC) point into the HDMI (ARC) port on the amp, all I got was a blank screen, saying NO SIGNAL, so have now connected via HDMI 1 & an optical cable, not ideal

Secondly I want to occasionally watch TV without the amp. Set the AMP to HDMI Through so supposedly the HDMI ports work even though the Amp is in standby but doesn't work when I switch off the AMP via the green button on the remote.

Can anybody help me please?
