Have just acquired Sony 55" KD-55X8500F

After having a TV which had minimal IOS and relied upon a external box to run apps and interface to various streaming services, I though the Sony 55" KD-55X8500F would be an advancement. The so called smart TV!

It is a software purposed app box with a display and the issue I am having are with Netflix and the Australian TV streaming app SBS Catchup to mention a few.

I did not pay real money to sit around and fix it myself. it is making the watching experience very sad.

For instance I have noticed many posts where the user reports problems about Netflix, whereby it hangs or it cant connect to the internet. It works ok for a short while and then fails.

I also notice that the reponses to fixes are underwhelming. Sony in particular is a typical IT firm letting the customer sought out its problems and providing zero effort to technically resolve any issue in an aceptable time span.

The proposed actions of powering on and off, factory resetting, clearing memory, deleting updates, restarting etc etc are not FIXES! They are lame work arounds. The problems will come back and it does. Its a softare based system, nothing has changed after undertaking such SOFT fixes. After 45 years working in IT, such so called fixes would be considered rubbish. Yet on many posts I see these responses.

My Sony 55" KD-55X8500F has either a hardware or software issue. I want it fixed, not tinkered with by lame soft actions.

The problem either lies in the IOS, the application software, the network settings, etc etc. I would expect Sony to have a tech lab where they can test these problems. In the world of corporate IT the vendors provide real support and real tech forums.

Does Sony have a real support desk or is it just the usual 21st century customer facing facade?

I am looking at my Sony 55" KD-55X8500F and it its future looks bleak.

Hi Greg,

Welcome to the Sony community.

If you believe that your TV has a hardware/software issue then it would be best to get in touch with the support team for further help here.

Best wishes,

I have similar issues and from what I can see on this site it is a Android Version issue and hopefully we are to get android 8 before the end of the year?, Will that fix this issue? 2 days left.

I have reverted to using apps through my Samsung DVD, until the apps in the TV become more stable.
