Screen lock issue - 'none' option has disappeared entirely on Nougat

First, I have consulted existing threads on this subject but haven't found any solution for newer phones. So I guess this question is for owners of the newer X series Sony phones.

I dislike using any kind of lock screen on my phone - it generally sits on my desk all day and I have no need for any kind of security. When I bought the phone it was on Marshmallow and I had set the lockscreen to "none" so that I could tap to wake and just see my homescreen with no swiping.

I upgraded to Nougat and that setting was retained. However, I was experimenting with using the fingerprint scanner feature just in case I ever wanted to lack the phone. When I went back to select "none" for the lockscreen, the option was gone! I'm so annoyed at myself for playing around with it. I've tried clearing credentials etc, but the option doesn't come back.

Has anybody found a way to restore the "none" option to this phone? Would a factory reset bring it back?

I would be supremely grateful to have it back.

Hi Alexdon, unfortunately nothing in that thread works on my phone. I tried deleting all credentials, made a guest account (which didn't have the option either). It seems that Sony removed it from the system when they made Nougat. It's very disappointing. I wish I didn't play around with it - I can't believe the option disappeared just because I tried out the fingerprint scanner!

@malando I am really sorry, it seems the last resort for this is a factory settings reset.

EDIT: @malando do you have android pay active?

I did a factory reset and the option did not come back.

I don't have Android Pay active.

Go to account.google.com and check your security settings.. Try disabling any that seem to be linked to device locking and check again.
