dark/flat picture on KD-49XH8196

on many sources i am getting an unsatisfactory picture,despite having experimented with this in settings.

it shows as quite dark,lacks any vibrancy at all....it fares slightly better on HD input but still not as good as expected.

contrast 90/brightness 35/colour 50

i accept that some channels have lower bitrate and quality can be poor but i expect better on the main BBC channels.

any advice?

looking at your settings, the contrast seems way to high. Doesn't it go from 0 to 100 and 50 is the default setting?
